Castle of Zalia, Alcaucín

The Castle of Zalia is a fortress in Alcaucín built on elevated terrain with defensive walls and towers across the mountainous landscape of Málaga province. The structure spreads across the site and displays the typical layout of a medieval military stronghold.

The fortress was built between the 9th and 14th centuries and served as a defensive structure during Islamic rule on the Iberian Peninsula. It played an important role until Christian reconquest transformed the region.

The site is located about 4 kilometers from Alcaucín village and is accessible only by car. Visitors should bring sufficient water as no facilities are available on-site.
