La Maroma, Mountain summit in Sierra de Tejeda, Spain
La Maroma is a mountain summit in the Sierra de Tejeda, reaching 2069 meters at its highest point. The peak stands within the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park and forms a natural boundary between Granada and Málaga provinces.
The peak got its name from a rope system that local workers once used to reach an ice storage facility built near the summit. This facility served the surrounding communities for centuries before it fell out of use.
The mountain stands as a natural border between Granada and Málaga provinces, forming part of the extensive Penibaetic mountain system in Andalusia.
Three main hiking routes reach the summit: the 12-kilometer Llanadas de Sedella path, the 15-kilometer El Robledal trail, and the 20-kilometer Canillas de Aceituno route. Choose the path that best matches your fitness level and available time for the hike.
On clear days, visitors can see both the Mediterranean Sea and the North African coast from the summit. Wild horses roam the ridges near the peak, adding an unexpected element to the mountain experience.
