Embalse de Cala, Stausee in Spanien
Embalse de Cala is a reservoir in Seville Province that holds water from the Rivera de Cala river behind a concrete gravity dam. The structure rises approximately 50 meters above the riverbed, stretches over 300 meters in length, and covers a water surface of around 473 hectares with a storage capacity exceeding 60 million cubic meters.
The reservoir was constructed in 1927 as a major water management infrastructure project for the region. Since its creation, it has regulated river flow and stored water for the surrounding communities and agricultural areas.
The reservoir is located about 56 kilometers north of Seville in a rural area with minimal facilities nearby. Visitors should be aware that it remains an active water management facility with limited public access to certain areas.
Water is pumped approximately 7 kilometers to a treatment facility using a 70-horsepower centrifugal pump placed just below the surface. This system demonstrates the engineering effort required to move water from the lake into urban supply networks.
