Cueva de Santa Ana, Archaeological and paleontological site in Cáceres Province, Spain.
The cave contains multiple chambers with geological formations and sedimentary layers that preserve evidence of ancient human settlements and animal remains.
Excavations since 2001 have uncovered stone tools and animal bones dating back to the Middle Pleistocene, indicating continuous human presence over hundreds of thousands of years.
The site reveals three distinct lithic industries: Oldowan, Acheulean, and Mousterian, demonstrating the technological progression of early human populations in Europe.
The cave lies within Military Camp CIMOV No. 1, approximately 12 kilometers from Cáceres city, near the CN-630 road toward Mérida.
Researchers discovered spheroid stone tools similar to those manufactured in East Africa 1.75 million years ago, suggesting technological connections between continents.
