Miramar Studios, Television studio building on Montjuïc hill, Barcelona, Spain
Miramar Studios is a four-story television broadcasting building on Montjuïc hill with views over Barcelona's harbor and Mediterranean coastline. The structure shows the architectural approach to television facilities of the 1950s, with spaces designed for production and on-site transmission operations.
The building opened in 1959 under Radio Television Española and marked the start of regular broadcasts from Barcelona to the rest of Spain. Operations ceased in 1983 when production moved to Sant Cugat del Vallès.
The studios were central to Spanish entertainment television and shaped the look and feel of programs that reached homes across the country. Today, visitors can see how the building's design and location reflect the ambitions of early television production.
The site sits on a hilltop with road access, though interior visits are not available today. The exterior structure is visible from the surrounding Montjuïc area, where walkers can explore the broader landscape.
During its operating years, this facility served as Spain's sole connection point to the Eurovision broadcasting network, making the country accessible for international television contact. The hilltop location offered a significant advantage for signal transmission across long distances.
