The Church of Santiago el Real features a Renaissance facade with two statues of Saint James and a 40-meter tower with an octagonal brick spire.
The church stands on ancient cave dwellings, with construction of the current structure completed in 1527 after a fire destroyed the previous Romanesque building.
The main altarpiece, finished in 1656, displays three levels with five sections containing important Christian figures and the image of Virgin of Hope.
The church opens daily from 08:30 to 20:30, offering free admission to visitors at Barriocepo 6 in the center of Logroño.
The crypt beneath the apse contains burial walls from Roman times when interments within city limits were prohibited by law.
