Church of Santiago, Logroño, Catholic church in Logroño, Spain.

The Church of Santiago el Real is a Catholic church in the center of Logroño, Spain, with a Renaissance facade featuring two statues of Saint James and a tower with an octagonal spire. The building has a single nave with side chapels and sits directly on the main pilgrim route through the city.

An earlier Romanesque church stood on this site before a fire in 1521 destroyed it, leading to the construction of the current building, which was completed by 1527. Over the following centuries, the chapels and facade were expanded, so the church reflects several building phases.

The church stands directly on the Camino de Santiago, and many pilgrims stop here before continuing west toward their destination. The main altar displays religious figures arranged on multiple levels, reflecting how deeply rooted devotion to Saint James remains in this city.

The church sits in the historic center of Logroño and is easy to reach on foot from most central points in the city. Opening times may vary depending on religious services and the time of year, so it is worth checking before visiting.

Beneath the apse there is a crypt containing burial niches from Roman times, when burials were forbidden inside city walls. This means the site was used as a burial ground long before any church was built here.
