Church of Santa María de Palacio, Gothic Catholic church in Logroño, Spain

The Church of Santa María de Palacio is a Gothic place of worship featuring carved stone work, stained glass windows, and an altarpiece created by Italian craftsmen. The medieval building combines artistic details with solid stone construction developed through different building phases.

Construction began in the 11th century and was later enriched by the Chapel of Saint Engracia, founded by Don Rodrigo Alfonso, an officer under King Alfonso XI. This addition shaped the building's later forms and functions.

This church sits directly on a section of the Way of Saint James and welcomes pilgrims walking this ancient route across Europe. The space has special meaning for many travelers as a stopping point on their spiritual journey.

The building sits in Logroño's city center and offers limited wheelchair access through specific entry doors. It is easiest to visit on foot from other nearby historic sites, as the area is straightforward to explore.

The altarpiece was originally created for the Co-cathedral of Santa María de la Redonda but was relocated here after initial rejection. This unexpected relocation gave the artwork a new chapter in the building's history.
