Paseo del Espolón

Paseo del Espolón, Historic footpath along Ebro River in Logroño, Spain.

The Paseo del Espolón is a long promenade running along the Ebro River that connects the old town with newer districts of the city. A central fountain sits among rows of plane trees, ornamental gardens, and seasonal flower beds throughout the walkway.

Construction of this promenade began in 1757 and took its name from a similar boulevard in Burgos. Over time it became the main recreational area for people living and moving through the city.

The monument to General Espartero stands in the center of this promenade, honoring a military leader who settled here after his career abroad. Local residents and visitors gather here regularly, making it a social meeting point within the city.

The promenade has benches and shaded areas throughout, making it comfortable to walk or rest. The path is flat and easy to navigate for visitors of all abilities.

Beyond the rows of plane trees, cedar and cypress groves create distinct sections along the way, with tulips and irises planted seasonally throughout. This botanical variety adds character to different parts of the promenade in a way many visitors overlook.
