Castle of Hisn Mola

The Castle of Hisn Mola is a medieval fortress on a hilltop in Molina de Segura featuring thick stone walls, square towers, and defensive structures. The stronghold overlooks the Segura River valley and contains multiple levels of fortifications and residential areas.

The fortress was built during the Islamic period in Spain and served as a military stronghold and residence for local authorities. After the Christian reconquest, it was adapted and gradually lost its military importance.

The fortress displays a blend of Islamic building styles and Christian modifications that reflect the multicultural past of the Murcia region. This architectural mixing is visible in the stonework and the different construction phases you can see throughout the structure.

You can reach the fortress by following the marked trail from Molina de Segura town center. Wear sturdy shoes as the path is steep and uneven in places.

The fortress contains remains of an ancient water system that supplied the stronghold through underground channels carved into the hill. This hydraulic network demonstrates the engineering skill of earlier inhabitants in maintaining water supply at this elevated location.
