Casa de los Nueve Pisos, Protected residential building in Murcia, Spain
Casa de los Nueve Pisos is a residential building in Murcia featuring nine floors, with a main section rising eight stories and a smaller U-shaped wing of five floors. The structure is organized to create separate residential zones across its different levels.
Constructed in 1941 by architect José Antonio Rodríguez, the building represented the introduction of tall residential structures to the Murcia region. It marked the beginning of a new era in urban housing development for the area.
The entrance displays elements salvaged from the former Royal Silk Factory, blending rococo design with sculptural details that once belonged to an educational institution.
The building sits in central Murcia and is accessible by public transportation and on foot. Visitors should note the pedestrian zones nearby and look for the entrance facing the street.
The building's height was increased from four to nine floors due to the owner's wish to escape smoke from a neighboring hat factory. This unusual decision resulted in one of Murcia's most distinctive structures.
