Iglesia de Santa María del Reposo

The Iglesia de Santa María del Reposo is a Baroque parish church organized into three naves separated by rectangular pillars, with the central nave significantly wider and taller than the side aisles. The building displays characteristic features of the period through its decorated facade and interior structural elements.

Construction began in 1536 and extended over more than two centuries until 1770, with the bulk of the work occurring during the Baroque period. A comprehensive renovation took place between 1805 and 1821, which significantly altered the building's appearance and structural elements.

The main facade displays the decorative wealth of Sevillian Baroque style, reflecting how local craftspeople brought regional artistic traditions to this modest town. You can see how the ornamental stone work and architectural details reflect the artistic preferences of its era.

The building sits at the edge of San Sebastian Street next to Plaza de Espana in the town center and is easy to reach on foot. From this central location, you can also visit other nearby sites and explore the surrounding streets on your own.

The tower consists of four distinct sections, with the first three built from stone blocks and the uppermost made of brick painted in ochre tones. This shift in materials and coloring reveals how different construction phases were completed at separate times using different building methods.
