Castillo de la Estrella, Medieval fortress in Teba, Spain

Description

Castillo de la Estrella is a fortress perched on a limestone hill at around 640 meters elevation. The structure features sixteen towers and three entrance gates distributed across its grounds.

History

The fortress was built in the 13th century by Muslim builders and played a key role in conflicts between Christian and Muslim forces. Castilian troops captured it in 1330.

Culture

The Alcázar section contains an Interpretation Center that explores regional military history through exhibits and displays. This space helps visitors understand how the fortress shaped life and conflict in the area.

Practical

The fortress is accessible via the C-342 road connecting Teba with nearby towns. Guided tours are offered throughout the year to help you explore the site.

Did you know?

The fortress includes a barbican wall that served two purposes: defense during conflicts and livestock containment during peaceful times. This dual use reveals how fortresses adapted to everyday needs.
