Resbaladero de Lunada, Historical timber slide in Soba, Spain.
The Resbaladero de Lunada is a historic timber slide near Soba built on a stone foundation with a beech wood channel system. The construction stretched about 1,700 meters (5,577 feet) down the mountainside to move logs efficiently to lower elevations.
An Austrian engineer named Wolfgang Mucha built this system in 1791 to supply timber for the Royal Cannon Factory of La Cavada. The project reflected the industrial needs of the region during a period of expansion and manufacturing growth.
The structure demonstrates how people engineered solutions to move heavy materials through mountain terrain. The system was essential for supplying timber to industrial centers that shaped the region's economy.
Access to the site is via the road leading to Lunada ski station, where visitors can spot the remaining foundations along the mountainside path. The best time to visit is outside winter months when the pathways are more easily accessible.
The system used deceleration ramps and water channels to slow the logs and protect both the timber and the workers below. This practical engineering solution prevented damage and accidents on what would have been an extremely dangerous descent.
