Playa de Guadalmar, Protected beach in Churriana district, Málaga, Spain
Playa de Guadalmar is a protected beach in the Churriana district featuring dark sand that stretches about 400 meters along the coast. The shoreline includes different sections, each with its own character and situated in an ecologically important area.
The area near the Guadalhorce river mouth retained its natural state over decades and became an important stopping point for wildlife. This ecological value eventually led to the protected status the area holds today.
The section at the foot of the golf course serves as the only authorized naturist zone within Málaga municipality.
You can reach the beach by taking bus line 5 to Hotel Guadalmar, with about a five-minute walk from there to the shore. The protected status means access is limited and visitors need to follow local regulations.
The area serves as a critical stopover for migratory birds traveling between Europe and Africa, where they rest and refuel. These passing birds make it a preferred spot for birdwatchers.
