Manzanares Linear Park, Linear park along the Manzanares River in Madrid, Spain.
The Manzanares Linear Park extends along the Manzanares River course, featuring landscaped gardens, recreational areas, sports facilities, walking paths, and the prominent bronze sculpture La Dama del Manzanares crowning an artificial hill.
Construction began in late 2000 and was completed in 2003 under the architectural direction of Ricardo Bofill, transforming former industrial wasteland and landfill areas into accessible green public spaces for Madrid residents.
The park hosts the 13-meter tall bronze sculpture La Dama del Manzanares by artist Manolo Valdés, positioned atop La Atalaya artificial hill and illuminated by seasonal colored lighting that changes throughout the year.
The park operates from 7:00 AM until 10:00 PM in autumn and winter, extending to midnight during spring and summer, accessible via Metro stations Almendrales, Hospital 12 de Octubre, and San Fermín-Orcasur.
La Atalaya artificial mountain was constructed from construction debris and waste materials, creating an elevated viewpoint that offers panoramic views of Madrid while symbolically representing urban regeneration and environmental restoration.
