Los Valles Occidentales Natural Park, Natural park in Jacetania, Spain.
Los Valles Occidentales Natural Park is a protected reserve in the western Pyrenees with deep valleys, high peaks, and dense forests of beech and fir trees. The terrain ranges from lower valleys with mixed vegetation to high mountain areas with sparse alpine plants.
The area received protected status in 2006, becoming an important conservation site in the Aragonese Pyrenees. This designation helped secure the westernmost mountain section of the region for long-term environmental protection.
Stone farmhouses and shepherd shelters dot the valleys, showing how mountain communities adapted their buildings to this terrain. You can see these structures woven into the landscape as you walk through villages and grazing areas.
The visitor center in Ansó provides information and exhibits about the park's nature and landscape. Spring through autumn offers the best conditions for walking trails, as higher elevations remain snow-free and weather is most stable.
The park contains a remarkable collection of plants found nowhere else on Earth, with several species living only among the rocky terrain here. These rare varieties attract botanists and nature enthusiasts who want to see flora that exists in this specific location alone.
