Pic d'Ansabère

Pic d'Ansaberre is a mountain peak reaching 2377 meters, marked by steep limestone rock faces that tower above the Ansaberre valley. The surrounding area features extensive hiking paths that connect different elevations and terrain types across the slopes.

Centuries ago, shepherds carved out a network of paths to move their flocks through the high pastures surrounding this mountain. These ancient routes remain visible today and have shaped how people travel through the region.

Shepherd huts scattered across the slopes reflect the long pastoral heritage of this mountain region. Local herders still use these shelters during summer to make traditional sheep cheese using methods passed down through generations.

The hike from Pont de Lamary is demanding and takes roughly 6 hours over about 11 kilometers with a significant elevation gain. Sturdy footwear and sure-footedness are essential since the terrain is steep and rocky in many sections.

The northern limestone face holds more than 80 climbing routes across different skill levels and difficulty grades. Rock climbers value this location for the variety of wall formations and the clear views down into the valley during ascents.
