Todoque, Village in Los Llanos de Aridane, Spain.
Todoque is a residential settlement in Los Llanos de Aridane municipality on La Palma island, located at approximately 340 meters in elevation. It consists of houses and small roads that connect to surrounding farmland and the nearby Puerto Naos beach.
The settlement became integrated into Los Llanos de Aridane municipality in 1812, transforming from farming land into a residential area over subsequent decades. A major volcanic eruption in September 2021 fundamentally altered its physical geography.
The San Pio X church was the heart of community life until the volcanic eruption of 2021, serving as the main gathering place for residents. This building represented continuity and belonging for generations before the landscape shifted dramatically.
The settlement is accessible by local roads that connect to surrounding areas, including nearby beaches and other villages. Visitors should be aware that road conditions and accessibility may differ from other island locations due to the volcanic changes that occurred in 2021.
Lava from the 2021 eruption flowed through parts of the village, burying buildings and roads beneath new volcanic material. This created a visible layering of two different time periods in the same location, offering a striking reminder of natural forces.
