Irueña Reservoir, embalse en la provincia de Salamanca, España
Irueña Reservoir is a small dam in Salamanca province that controls the flow of the Agueda River. The clear waters are surrounded by trees and open countryside, with steep banks in some areas that rise directly above the water.
The dam was built to manage water supply and prevent flooding in the region. The reservoir was filled in 2014, making it a relatively new addition to the area's landscape.
The ruins of an old Celtic fortress overlook the water from about 30 meters above the surface, marking where ancient people once lived. The reservoir takes its name from this fortress, connecting the present landscape to its past inhabitants.
Access to the reservoir is straightforward, with parking near the dam and paths leading down to the water. The steep banks in some areas mean you need to take care when moving along the shore, especially near the higher points.
The reservoir is still young, having been filled only in 2014, and continues to develop as an ecosystem. Its clear waters support diverse fish species, including native trout and barbel along with introduced species like black bass.
