Església de Sant Francesc de Sales

Església de Sant Francesc de Sales, 19th-century church in Dreta de l'Eixample, Barcelona, Spain.

Església de Sant Francesc de Sales is a 19th-century church in Dreta de l'Eixample with a Latin cross layout and a heptagonal apse. A bell tower integrated into the main facade design defines its exterior appearance and gives the building its distinctive silhouette.

The building was constructed between 1878 and 1885 for the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary. It suffered damage during the Tragic Week of 1909, a period of social unrest in Barcelona.

The building was designed by Joan Martorell and shows how 19th-century architects created religious spaces with generous proportions and clear geometry. The interior with its cross-shaped layout creates an impression of dignity and order that visitors notice immediately upon entering.

The building is open to visitors, with opening hours that vary by day of the week. It's advisable to check the current times before visiting, as weekday schedules differ from weekend times.

The Marist Brothers acquired the building in 1942 and continue to use it for both religious and educational purposes. This dual function as church and school remains visible in how the spaces are organized and used today.
