Edificio Pirámide, Madrid

Edificio Pirámide is a modern office building in the Almagro district with ten above-ground floors and four basement levels. The structure covers around 5,300 square meters and combines a ground floor lobby with an adjacent garden, while basement levels house parking and mechanical systems accessible from Paseo de la Castellana.

Architect Antonio Lamela designed and built this complex between 1973 and 1977, when Madrid was undergoing significant modernization. The construction took place during a period when Spanish architecture was exploring new creative directions.

The building represents how Madrid's architecture evolved during the 1970s through bold design choices that went beyond typical office structures. Its distinctive shape became a landmark in the neighborhood, showing how the city embraced modernism during that period.

The main entrance leads to a lobby with access to a garden, while parking facilities are reached via Paseo de la Castellana. Note that this functions as an active office building and is not generally open to the public for touring.

The building features three sloping facades with suspended corners supported by prestressed cables, an innovative engineering solution from the 1970s. This structural approach was uncommon for office buildings at that time.
