Castle of Las Seguras

Castle of Las Seguras is a stone fortress located south of Cáceres, positioned near the EX-100 road and the Salor River crossing. The building combines defensive features such as battlements and arrow slits with structural elements added across multiple centuries.

Pedro de Ovando initiated construction in the late 14th century, with the main tower completed by the end of the 15th century. The structure was subsequently adapted multiple times to meet changing residential and functional needs.

The fortress displays architectural features from multiple periods, including Gothic vaults and defensive elements that reflect different construction phases. These varied styles show how the building evolved and adapted to the needs of its inhabitants over time.

The property remains privately owned, with the current resident maintaining a section while making other areas available for events and visits. Contact ahead to arrange access and learn about current conditions at the site.

A major restoration in 1919 reconstructed much of the building using traditional medieval methods and materials. During this work, family crests from multiple properties were incorporated into the walls, creating a visual record of the owners' connections across the region.
