Central Lechera Clesa, Industrial building in Valverde, Spain
Central Lechera Clesa is a dairy processing facility in Madrid composed of three parallel manufacturing halls surrounded by office spaces. The structure was built from prestressed concrete following functionalist design principles.
Architect Alejandro de la Sota designed this facility in 1961 as a significant step in Spanish industrial architecture of the 20th century. The building represents a period when modern design principles were being introduced into traditional industrial sectors.
The building shows how industrial design and modern architecture worked together to serve practical needs. You can see this through the way spaces were organized to support the work that happened here.
The complex is well connected by public transport and located in an established industrial area of the city. Visitors should be flexible as access can vary depending on the current activities of the affiliated institutions.
The facility was later transformed by the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and private partners into a life sciences campus. This conversion demonstrates how industrial structures can be successfully repurposed for new functions while retaining their architectural importance.
