Museo Zuloaga, Art museum in Segovia, Spain
The Museo Zuloaga occupies the former Church of San Juan de los Caballeros, a Romanesque building in the old town that now displays paintings and sculptures by the artists Daniel and Ignacio Zuloaga. The space combines the original architecture with exhibition areas arranged throughout the interior.
The Church of San Juan de los Caballeros was built in medieval times and served as a place of worship for centuries before being converted into a museum space. The collection opened to the public in 1955 and gained protected heritage status a few years later.
The collections showcase how the Zuloaga family shaped Spanish art through their paintings and sculptures spanning several decades. Walking through the rooms, you see how their work reflected the concerns and interests of their time.
The museum is located in Segovia's old town and is easily reached on foot, with rooms spread across different levels of the building. Wear comfortable shoes because the interior has stairs and uneven floors typical of a historic church structure.
The church kept much of its original religious artwork and furnishings alongside the Zuloaga family's modern paintings and sculptures. This mix of old sacred pieces with later artistic additions creates an unexpected experience that few visitors anticipate.
