Church of San Juan de los Caballeros, Romanesque church and ceramics museum in Segovia, Spain
The Church of San Juan de los Caballeros is a Romanesque building with three naves and rounded arches, featuring Gothic details on its western facade. The interior is now dominated by a ceramics exhibition displaying artworks and pottery pieces.
The building was constructed between the 11th and 13th centuries on the foundations of an earlier Visigothic church from the 6th century. In the early 20th century, artist Daniel Zuloaga purchased the building and converted it into an art workshop.
The church was originally a gathering place for local nobility and their followers in medieval times. Visitors can sense how this space has served the community as a meeting point for centuries.
The building is easily reached from the city center and the interior is well-lit for viewing the ceramics exhibition. Visits are most enjoyable on less crowded days when you can admire the artworks without rush.
The building contains the tombs of two medieval knights who founded an aristocratic association within the city. These historical tombs still remain inside and form part of the site's religious history.
