Escultura d'Anís del Mono, Bronze sculpture near Pont del Petroli, Badalona, Spain
The Escultura d'Anís del Mono is a bronze sculpture located along the maritime promenade in Badalona that depicts a monkey holding an anise bottle. The work weighs around 200 kg and features facial details reminiscent of Charles Darwin, positioned at the entrance of Pont del Petroli.
Artist Susana Ruiz created this bronze work in 2012 to honor the Anis del Mono brand, which was established by the Bosch brothers in 1870. The sculpture emerged as a way to celebrate the enduring connection between this traditional liquor brand and Badalona.
The sculpture represents the connection between Badalona's industrial heritage and the Anis del Mono factory, which continues production in the city.
The sculpture is easily accessible from the waterfront promenade, standing on a concrete platform that offers ample space for viewing and photography. The location is quickly reached on foot from the city center and fits naturally into the existing walking route.
Following vandalism damage in 2016, the sculpture underwent restoration with structural reinforcements added while preserving its original artistic character. The renovation made the work more durable without altering its distinctive appearance.
