Teijo National Park, National park in Salo, Finland
Teijo National Park is a protected area in Salo featuring multiple lakes, dense pine forests, marshlands, and rocky terrain across approximately 34 square kilometers. The landscape displays different natural habitats typical of southwestern Finland.
The area developed in the 1800s as a center for iron production, with buildings in Kirjakkala village documenting Finland's early industrial development. These manufacturing sites continue to shape the park's appearance and historical significance today.
The iron works buildings in the park function as active craft centers where visitors can watch traditional Finnish manufacturing techniques being practiced by local artisans. These spaces show how heritage crafts remain part of daily life in this region.
The park provides 50 kilometers of marked trails suitable for different abilities and interests. About 3 kilometers of these paths are specially designed for visitors with mobility needs and wheelchair access.
The park contains a rare eutrophic fen ecosystem, one of the last remaining examples of this type in southern Finland. This specialized wetland landscape attracts visitors interested in uncommon natural habitats.
