Sagalund

Sagalund is an open-air museum in Kimito with more than twenty buildings representing traditional Finnish architecture, including a courthouse, farmhouse, villa, and two historical schools. The complex demonstrates how people lived and worked in this region.

Nils Oskar Jansson founded the site in 1900 as a cultural institution dedicated to preserving local traditions and architectural heritage of the Kimito region. This establishment was an early effort to document regional history for future generations.

The buildings display regional craftsmanship through exhibitions featuring traditional workshops, including a blacksmith area and sauna construction techniques. Visitors can observe how local artisans worked and shared their skills across generations.

The museum grounds are freely accessible during summer months, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. Guided tours are available for those who want deeper insights into the history and details of individual buildings.

The site was among Finland's first institutions to provide dedicated spaces where children could play and learn about cultural traditions. This educational approach made it a pioneer in connecting museum work with childhood learning.
