Crescendo / A Memorial to those who fell in the 1918, Bronze and granite memorial in Taka-Töölö, Helsinki, Finland.
The memorial features wave-like formations with protruding human heads emerging from abstract forms, creating a strong emotional impact through its design.
Created in 1970 by sculptor Taisto Martiskainen, this monument pays tribute to the individuals who died during the Finnish Civil War of 1918.
The memorial includes verses from poets Maiju Lassila, Elmer Diktonius, and Elvi Sinervo, alongside passages from the socialist anthem Internationale.
The monument stands in an open area of Taka-Töölö, allowing visitors to examine both the front inscription and the reverse side text.
The sculpture combines distorted faces with wave patterns, representing the progression from oppression to liberation through its ascending design.
