OTK matchstick factory

The OTK matchstick factory is an industrial brick building in Tampere designed specifically for match production. The structure features large windows that flooded the production areas with natural light to support the daily work.

The factory was founded in 1926 by the cooperative wholesale company Osuustukkukauppa and employed around 80 workers during the 1930s. It produced matches using wood from the surrounding region.

The factory represents Finnish industrial development of the early 20th century, incorporating functionalist architectural elements common in manufacturing facilities.

The building sits on Tikkutehtaanrinne street in the Särkänniemi area and enjoys protected status. The location is easy to reach on foot and the preserved exterior gives a good sense of early factory architecture.

Workers at the factory utilized aspen wood sourced from the nearby Näsijärvi area to produce matches during its operational period.
