Colmars

Colmars is a fortified settlement where the Verdon and Lance rivers meet, surrounded by Alpine peaks. The village sits in a narrow valley enclosed by high mountains and marked by defensive structures.

The settlement developed for strategic reasons to control an important Alpine pass. In the Middle Ages, the village faced multiple attacks and had to defend itself against various threats.

The military fortifications and traditional mountain buildings shape how the village looks and feels today. Walking through the narrow streets, you notice the defensive walls and towers that remind you of centuries spent as a strategic outpost.

The place is accessible only by mountain roads and remains partly isolated year-round. Visitors should be aware that access can be difficult depending on weather conditions and good preparation is necessary.

The inhabitants had to relocate because the original site became too cramped for the growing population. This move shows how people adapted their living spaces to meet new needs.
