Roche Grande

Roche Grande is a summit in the Alpes-Maritimes near Entraunes reaching 2,752 meters with steep rocky slopes and exposed stone formations. The mountain features rugged ridges and difficult terrain along its northern face.

The mountain served as a natural boundary between different Alpine communities starting in the Middle Ages. This geographic position shaped territorial divisions in the region for centuries.

Local shepherds maintain traditional grazing practices on the mountain slopes during summer months, continuing centuries-old agricultural methods.

Hiking trails to the summit are passable from June through September and require mountain equipment for the rocky terrain. Good footwear and weather preparation are important for safe climbing at this elevation.

From the summit you can see both the Mediterranean Alps and the peaks of Mercantour National Park across multiple valleys at once. This vantage point makes the location an important viewpoint in the region.
