Ibie, River in Saint-Maurice-d'Ibie, Ardèche, France
The Ibie is a river in Saint-Maurice-d'Ibie, in the Ardèche department of France, rising at the foot of the Coiron plateau and flowing south toward the Ardèche river. It runs through rocky limestone terrain, passing small villages along the way before joining the Ardèche near Vallon-Pont-d'Arc.
A mill once stood along the river, and its old dam near Lagorce is still visible today. This is a reminder that the waterway was once used to power local craft activity, long before the area became known mainly for its natural landscape.
On warm days, people from nearby villages gather along the banks to cool off in the clear pools. Some deep spots along the river have their own local names, passed down among those who know the area well.
The river can be explored on foot or by canoe, but the water level changes a lot depending on the season and recent rain. In spring the current can be strong, while in summer many sections become shallow and easy to walk alongside.
The river starts out as a small stream called Ruisseau de Plauzine before growing with water from tributaries like the Rounel and the Gardon. These small feeders carry local names that rarely appear on standard maps.
