Musée Dapper, African art museum in 16th arrondissement, Paris, France
The Musée Dapper was an art museum in Paris's 16th district dedicated to sub-Saharan African works and objects. The modern building on Rue Paul Valéry contained multiple exhibition areas displaying pieces from diverse African traditions and periods.
The museum was founded in Amsterdam in 1983 and moved to Paris in 1986, named after Dutch humanist Olfert Dapper who documented African cultures. It ceased operations in 2017.
The museum served as a gathering place for cultural events centered on African arts and traditions. It provided space for conversations and artistic exchanges between visitors and artists from Africa and beyond.
The location occupied a modern building and provided exhibition spaces along with an auditorium for performances and cultural events. A museum shop and restaurant were available for visitors inside the facility.
The museum hosted monthly film screenings that focused on African cinema in a casual setting. These regular sessions offered visitors a chance to discover films that might otherwise go unnoticed.
