Founded in the 6th century by Saint Amand, a hermit living in a hillside cave, the abbey underwent fortification modifications during the 14th century.
The abbey hosts the Festival de Périgord Noir each August, presenting classical music concerts and early music master classes within its stone walls.
The site includes interpretation trails, guided tours in French and English, picnic areas, and a cafeteria with various payment options accepted.
Located 8 kilometers from Lascaux cave, this abbey stands as the most substantial fortified religious structure in Dordogne, built with local Sarladaise stones.
