Château Laurens, Agde, Art Nouveau castle in Agde, France

Château Laurens is an Art Nouveau castle in Agde that spans roughly 1,400 square meters with carefully designed rooms throughout. Delicate woodwork, ceramics, and paintings fill the interior spaces, with natural light illuminating each room distinctly.

Emmanuel Laurens began building this castle in 1898 after inheriting wealth from a baron, which allowed him to pursue his architectural vision. He incorporated design elements from his travels worldwide into the structure he created.

The rooms here reflect the owner's passion for collecting architectural styles from his travels across the globe. A Japanese hall, an Italian patio, and a Moorish entrance show how he wove international design into his home.

The castle is open for visits from March through November, with guided tours available through an online booking system. You can explore the rooms and historical garden at your own pace during these months.

During World War II, the owner hid the castle's furniture by submerging it in a nearby lake to protect it from German occupation forces. This extraordinary measure reflects how much he valued preserving his creation.
