Musée des troupes de montagne

The Musée des troupes de montagne is a military museum located in Fort de la Bastille in Grenoble that focuses on mountain combat. The exhibition displays weapons, uniforms, communication equipment, maps, and personal accounts from soldiers who fought in alpine regions.

The museum was founded in 1988 to commemorate a century of alpine troops, then moved to Fort de la Bastille in 2009 after restoration work. This relocation allowed the collection to be housed in a historic fortress building that is itself part of French military history.

The museum tells the story of alpine soldiers known as Chasseurs Alpins, who hold a special place in French military tradition. Visitors can see how these troops operated in difficult terrain and what equipment they used.

The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday and provides audio guides in multiple languages to assist international visitors. The location in Fort de la Bastille also offers views of the city, so you can explore the surrounding area after visiting the museum.
