Place de l'Estrapade, Historic square in 5th arrondissement, Paris, France

Place de l'Estrapade is a square in the 5th arrondissement of Paris where three streets meet and a fountain marks the center. Surrounding it are multi-story residential buildings with shops, cafés, and restaurants on the ground floors.

The square takes its name from a medieval execution method used until Louis XIII's time, where prisoners were hoisted and dropped repeatedly. This harsh punishment method gave the location its name before it became a busy square in this neighborhood.

This square sits between two historic neighborhoods and is surrounded by classic Parisian buildings where locals come to shop and meet for coffee. The mix of shops, bakeries, and restaurants creates an everyday neighborhood feel that defines this corner of the 5th arrondissement.

The square has benches for resting and is easily reached on foot from surrounding streets. Nearby shops and restaurants make it simple to stop for a break or grab something to eat while exploring the area.

Three separate streets meet at this square, creating an unusual triangular shape that sets it apart from other Paris squares. This geometric arrangement grew naturally from the older street patterns of the area.
