Saint Gohard church, church in Saint-Nazaire, France
Saint Gohard is a modern church in Saint-Nazaire built in 1954 and 1955. It features white concrete walls with triangular forms, tall vertical stained-glass windows, and a campanile topped with four slender concrete pillars that support eight bells.
The church was built after World War II, as the original building was completely destroyed by bombing in 1943. Architect André Guillou designed the new structure, with the campanile and its eight bells completed in 1959.
The church is dedicated to Saint Gohard of Nantes, a local figure honored through this place of worship. It remains a gathering space where the local Catholic community comes to celebrate Mass and religious ceremonies.
The church sits on Boulevard de la Renaissance in downtown Saint-Nazaire, just a short walk from the train station. Its open modern design with large glass surfaces allows easy entry and access for visitors wanting to explore the architecture or spend time in the space.
The campanile was completed four years after the main church in 1959 and holds eight bells. A separate round baptistry with colored stained-glass windows sits on the southeast side of the building.
