Cabaret de L'Enfer, Hell-themed cabaret in Pigalle district, Paris, France
The entrance of the cabaret featured enormous demon jaws through which visitors passed to enter the establishment at Boulevard de Clichy.
Antonin Alexander established the Cabaret de L'Enfer in November 1892, operating it until 1950 when Monoprix purchased and demolished the building.
The staff dressed in devil costumes and greeted guests with theatrical phrases while serving drinks with names referencing infernal themes.
The establishment relocated from number 34 to 53 Boulevard de Clichy in 1895, operating next to its companion venue, Cabaret du Ciel.
Andre Breton maintained his studio above the cabaret, making it a regular meeting point for Surrealist artists during its operational years.
