The Fourth Apple, Steel statue in Montmartre, France
The Fourth Apple is a steel sculpture on Boulevard de Clichy, mounted on a stone pedestal and surrounded by four translucent glass panels. The polished surface of the apple reflects light, and the colored glass panels around it create changing visual effects as you move around the work.
This work replaced a bronze monument to philosopher Charles Fourier that was removed in 1942 during the Vichy occupation of France. The new sculpture by Franck Scurti was later installed at this location, bringing fresh artistic meaning to the site.
The steel apple features engravings of a world map that express the artist's ideas about global connection and how societies organize themselves. Walking around the piece, you notice these details invite reflection on how people relate to one another across borders.
You will find this public sculpture at 122 Boulevard de Clichy in the 18th arrondissement, easily visible from the street. Since it sits outdoors, it is accessible at all times and requires no special arrangements to visit.
The polished chrome finish of the apple creates mirror effects that reflect your image and surroundings as you view it. This reflective quality, combined with the engraved world map, creates a subtle play on the idea of reflection and mutual influence.
