Natural Marine Park of Cap Corse and Agriate, Marine protected area in northern Corsica, France
Parc naturel marin du Cap Corse et de l'Agriate is a marine protected area off northern Corsica covering about 6,830 square kilometers. The zone extends from shallow coastal waters out more than 100 kilometers into the Mediterranean Sea.
The protected area was established in 2016 as France's eighth marine park. It was created following regional conservation efforts aimed at safeguarding a significant portion of Corsica's marine environment.
The park management council functions as a local maritime parliament, bringing together 48 members including local authorities, marine professionals, and cultural associations.
Visitors should be aware of anchoring regulations and fishing restrictions that apply throughout the area. Most activities like snorkeling and boat trips are allowed but must follow local guidelines.
Researchers from the University of Corsica use the Stella Mare platform to study marine organisms at depths to about 30 meters. This work provides valuable data on the diverse marine life found in the region.
