Franjo Tuđman Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
The Franjo Tuđman Bridge spans 518 meters across Rijeka Dubrovačka with a distinctive cable-stayed design. The structure features an A-shaped pylon and 38 steel cables that stretch from the tower to support the main roadway.
Construction started in October 1998 after the University of Zagreb redesigned the original plans. The bridge opened to traffic in May 2002 following its completion.
The bridge honors Croatia's first president through its name, officially assigned in 2004. This naming reflects how the structure became meaningful to the city's identity after its construction.
The bridge carries the state road D8 and links the western approach to the city with the port area. It remains open continuously for both private and commercial traffic throughout the day.
The steel cables are enclosed in protective polyethylene pipes to shield them from weather and wear. This protective system helps ensure the structure remains durable over many years.
