Platak, Ski resort in Snježnik mountains, Croatia
Platak is a ski resort in the Snježnik mountains of Croatia, located a short distance inland from the city of Rijeka. It has several lifts and slopes spread across two elevation levels, with runs designed for different skill levels from beginners to more experienced skiers.
Platak opened in 1966 as the first organized ski area in the Rijeka region, bringing structured winter sports to a part of Croatia that had no facilities of this kind before. Over the following decades, the resort grew steadily and became a regular destination for skiers from the coast and beyond.
Platak sits within Gorski kotar, a mountain region with its own cooking traditions, and the on-site restaurant serves dishes rooted in local recipes. The food reflects what people in this part of Croatia have eaten for generations, using ingredients from nearby forests and farms.
Free parking is available at the base of the resort, which makes arriving by car straightforward. Equipment rentals and lessons are offered on site, and there is a dedicated area for children learning to ski.
On a clear day, skiers on the slopes can see the Adriatic Sea, since the resort sits roughly 10 kilometers from the coast. This combination of snow and sea view in such a short distance is something that very few ski areas anywhere in Europe can offer.
