3Arena, Entertainment centre in North Wall Quay, Dublin, Ireland
3Arena is a large indoor venue on North Wall Quay in Dublin with a capacity of 14,500 and sound systems designed to adapt to concerts, sports matches, and live performances. The building combines sections of an old railway shed with contemporary glass and steel additions along the waterfront.
A train shed built in 1878 provided the foundation for The Point Theatre, which opened in 1988 as a concert and performance hall. An extensive renovation in 2008 transformed the space into the modern 3Arena, expanding capacity and updating facilities for large-scale events.
The arena takes its name from Three Ireland, a mobile phone company, since the most recent sponsorship in 2014, though many locals still refer to it by older nicknames like The Point. Inside, portable floor seating arrangements allow for quick changes from a gig to a boxing match or a family show during the same week.
The Luas Red Line stops right outside the entrance, and Dublin Bus route 151 runs regularly to the venue during event hours. Arriving early gives you time to explore nearby streets with cafés and restaurants along the quays before a show begins.
Sections of the original 1878 train shed walls remain visible on the north side of the building, incorporated into the modern design. These old bricks link Dublin's docklands past to the current role of the area as an entertainment hub.
