Fartullagh, Historical barony in County Westmeath, Ireland.

Fartullagh is a historical barony in County Westmeath spread across rolling farmland and rural villages. The eastern section of Lough Ennell and scattered agricultural settlements shape the character of this countryside region.

The barony emerged in 1542 out of the lands controlled by the Tyrrell family, who held significant power in the region for generations. This administrative reorganization set the boundaries and divisions that continue to exist today.

The area preserves traditional Irish place names and administrative divisions that date back centuries. When you walk through the different parishes, you can still recognize these historical boundaries in the landscape today.

The area is easily reached via the M6 motorway running along its southern edge, connecting to Dublin and Galway. Plan enough time to properly explore the different villages and countryside at a relaxed pace.

Belvedere House, built in 1740 on a hilltop overlooking the lake, represents a rare example of Palladian architecture in this region. The house was created as a hunting lodge for Robert Rochfort and stands as one of the few surviving period estates in the area.
