Prison Six, military prison in Israel
Prison Six is a military prison located near Atlit in Israel. The facility features tall walls, guard towers, and cell blocks in a plain, functional design that housed around 350 prisoners.
The prison opened in 1956 following the Suez Crisis, designed to house soldiers under improved conditions compared to older facilities. It closed officially in 2021 and prisoners were transferred to a new facility near Kfar Yona.
The facility is not open to the public for regular visits and remains a military site with restricted access. Visitors should respect warning signs indicating restricted zones and understand the site's history through documentation or guided tours.
In November 1969 a heavy rainstorm caused a flood reaching two meters deep inside the prison and damaging the outer wall. Guards and prisoners worked together to rescue those trapped in flooded cells, and some prisoners later received medals for their heroism during this rescue.
