Changanassery

Changanassery is a municipality in Kottayam district, located about 17 kilometers south of the district capital. The settlement covers approximately 13.5 square kilometers with a population of around 51,000 residents positioned at roughly 11 meters in elevation.

The settlement established its market in 1805, rapidly becoming an important trading center for the region. It grew into a key hub for exchanging rice, pepper, and dried ginger between coastal areas and mountain regions.

The Anchuvilakku stone lamp structure reflects Kerala's architectural traditions and serves as a gathering point for people of different faiths. Visitors notice how locals and pilgrims approach this site as a place where communities naturally come together.

The municipality maintains a high literacy rate and features multiple educational institutions, with St. Berchmans College being a prominent landmark established in 1922. Visitors will find well-developed infrastructure and various facilities supporting daily services and study.
