Jaigarh Fort, Military fort in Amber, Jaipur, India

Jaigarh Fort is a sandstone fortification on the Hill of Eagles above Amber, stretching along the ridge with walls that follow the natural slopes of the terrain. The structure includes several courtyards, watchtowers positioned at intervals, and a main complex near the summit that overlooks the valley toward the city.

Raja Jai Singh II ordered construction in 1726 to protect the neighboring Amber complex from potential attacks. The site remained under the control of the royal family for generations, serving as a military center in the region.

Visitors today walk through courtyards where soldiers once drilled, passing under arches that frame views of the valley below. The armory hall displays swords and shields mounted on walls, reminding travelers of the fort's military purpose.

The pathways inside the fortification can be steep, so sturdy shoes help when climbing to the upper sections. Early morning hours offer cooler temperatures and fewer crowds, especially during summer months.

A cannon cast in the 18th century inside these walls still rests on its original carriage, recognized as one of the largest pieces of its kind. The cannon courtyard also displays old casting molds and tools that show the manufacturing process used at the time.

In Rajasthan, there is a city that is all blue.

In this part of northern India, sandstone forts stand on the hills while the desert is home to tigers and villages where people still weave by hand.
