Jaivana Cannon, Large-caliber cannon at Jaigarh Fort, India

Jaivana is a bronze cannon at Jaigarh Fort that measures about 20 feet (6 meters) long and displays decorative animal motifs along its barrel. The weapon sits on large wooden wheels and can pivot in all directions thanks to a rotating platform.

Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II commissioned the weapon in 1720 as part of the defenses for his new city. It was fired only once during a test and has remained unused on the fort ramparts ever since.

The cannon represents the military engineering capabilities of 18th-century India and stands as a symbol of Rajputana technological advancement at Jaigarh Fort.

Visitors can study the rotating mechanism and the original lifting crane beside the weapon. The site lies in the upper part of the fort and offers views across the cityscape.

Elephants, peacocks and ducks engraved on the barrel were considered symbols of good fortune. The chamber at the rear end still carries the original inscriptions left by the craftsmen.
